Links from article directories were hit badly by initial penguin update, now it is better to stop adding article links. Even if they are present we need to make use of Disavow tool to remove links and would be better not to use links from article directories.

Low Quality Directories:

Site with links from low quality directories faced penguin updates severely. Linking to few high quality directories is more advantageous rather than low quality sites in high number. Directories should not be considered a volume source of links.
